Building Pipelines: Home Grown Employees

Many organizations and school districts find themselves in competition with each other and the private sector when it comes to attracting and retaining employees. While factors like increased compensation, rewards, work-life balance, and benefits are certainly appealing, many positions still remain unfilled. At San José Unified, we’ve developed a pipeline strategy that has proven effective, with 30% of our new hires coming from employee referrals and 20% stemming from community engagement. When our employees and the broader community are educated about available roles and provided with clear pathways to achieve their career aspirations, they become truly invested in the organization. This kind of investment leads to long-term commitment and a high return of investment.
